Abstract
The project is intended to study the applicability of remote sensing techniques (aerial photography, satellite images) in the reconnaissance of Maya archaeological sites in central part of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. The area is almost unknown from the archaeological point of view. Considering that specific characteristics of natural environment (tropical forest) make the field reconnaissance work extremely difficult, the application of remote sensing techniques may accelerate considerably the identification of sites and increase the efficiency of later systematic field surveys.
