Abstract
Direct AC to AC matrix converters are devices interposed between sources of electrical energy and loads that usually convert that energy from AC voltage source to some other AC voltage with variable magnitude and frequency. In principle, for a given set of input three phase voltages, any desired set of output voltages can be synthesized by suitable toggling matrix switches. From the theory it is known that AC to AC matrix converter can operate with the unity power factor. A symmetric and antisymmetric switching strategy enable this operation mode. The hard switching mode opearation has been used in the ordinary matrix converters. In the proposed resaearch we would like to introduce the soft swtch operation mode. The resonant link capacitor will be distributed at the matrix switching transistor. The unity displacement factor operation will be achieved by using the combined symmetric and antisymmetric modulation strategy as well. This combined algorithm enableed the unity displacement factor operation without current sensing and current control.
