Abstract
In the last few years the studies based on duplex Doppler scanning underline the importance of the type of atherosclerotic plaque (echolucent or echogenic). Some studies investigate the intima-media thickness of the common carotid artery as a potential risk factor.
The aim of the study is to assess how the ultrasonographic charactertics of carotid plaques and the intima-media thickness of the common carotid artery correlate with an eventual rate of restenosis after surgical reconstruction (angioplasty) of the internal carotid artery.
