Abstract
In this project the effect of toxic organic compounds originate from antifouling paints (organotins, triazine herbicides) and petrochemicals (PAH) will be established in the Slovenian coastal region by using up-to-date analytical methods in testing marine organisms for bioindicators of marine pollution and for a quality assessment of natural and cultured seafood for human consumption. An assesment of their biological effects and effects on the process of bio-mineralization and on the process of calcification in marine organisms will be made using biological and isotopic methods.Transport and dispersion of pollutants from emission sources (marinas, ports) will be simulated by mathematical modelling and pollutants potentially will be used to evaluate the influence of contaminated food on a human health.
