Abstract
We will examine formulation of specific organic wastes into fungal inocula for the biosynthesis of organic acids in soils. Additionally, we will study the feasibility of bioremediation of heavy metal-contaminated soils using simultaneous mobilization of metals with organic acids from fungal inocula and the extaction of metals with hyperaccumulating plants. Finally, we will investigate heavy metal and nitrate leaching to the groundwater and the isotope fractionation of nitrogen due to fungal inocula application to the soil.
