Abstract
The objective of this project is to determine levels of cystatin C and cathepsins B, H and L in biological fluids of healthy and asthmatic subjects. The purpose is also to establish their normal serum base-line circadian characteristics and their deviations before and after cortisteroid and cyclosporine A treatment. The results may provide better understanding of the role of cysteine proteinases and their inhibitors in pathophysiological mechanisms and may be of clinical interest as additional biochemical parameters for monitoring the disease and its therapy.
