Abstract
During malignant transformation quantitative and qualitative changes particulary of nuclei and nuclear chromatin occur. These changes are used in conventional microscopic evaluation of the tumors. However, all important biologic characteristics of the tumor cannot be identified.
Quantitative image cytometry provides information on over 100 characteristics of cell nucleus. Resarches assume that malignant potential of premalignant lesions and malignant tumors can be estimated by quantitative analysis of nuclear texture features. In our research project we are planning to test if nuclear texture features can be used 1.to detect preinvasive lesions, 2.to evaluate malignant potential of preinvasive and invasive forms of cancer and to 3. evaluate the effect of chemoterapy. We expect to find discriminating features analysing nuclear features and clinicopathologic variables with uni and multivariate analysis. New discriminating features would increase the rate of early cancer detection and would enable more rational treatment.
