Abstract
Loosening of metal implants in connection with inflammation is severe complication in orthopaedic and trauma surgery. Recently, bioactive coated metal implants (for example hydroxyapatite ceramics, HAC coating) have been used to improve the interface between implant, bone and soft tissue. In the proposed project experimentally coated metal Shanz screws (HAC plasma spray coating) and standard metal Shanz screws will be implanted into the sheep femora. After a certain period of time the screw-bone and screw-soft tissue interface will be analized using electron and optic microscopy.
