Description
APPLIED SCIENCE The focus of activities is the development of scientific electro-optical instrumentation and software for the assessment of single cell function. It also performs services related to confocal microscopy. On the other hand the aim is to develop technologies for the production of hybrid cells to be used in therapy of cancer by immunomodulation. CELL SCIENCE In addition to the applied research CELICA's research team closely collaborating with the Molecular Cell Physiology Lab at the University of Ljubljana is carrying-out basic research projects aiming to understand single cell functioning, focusing at understanding molecular events of subcellular organelle physiology. Techniques employed range from confocal microscopy, electrophysiology (capacitance measurements), cytosolic calcium measurements, molecular biology and others. DESIGN OF INSTRUMENTS CELICA, d.o.o. and partners developed state-of-the-art electrophysiology equipment that has been used in basic research for more than 15 years. Performance and applicability of instruments developed is warranted by the numerous papers published in peer-reviewed journals. The core of these instruments is the patch-clamp amplifier, which has unique specifications. The SWAM 2c (Single-Channel Whole-Cell Admittance Meter) enables you to measure single-channel and whole-cell currents using one probe, it provides an option for potential measurements while controlling membrane current, and has a built-in dual phase lock-in amplifier for high resolution membrane capacitance measurements (monitoring changes of cell membrane surface area, such as those occurring during exocytosis and endocytosis). SWAM 2c is therefore more than a conventional patch-clamp amplifier. Other instruments can be used to condition acquired signals. A self-standing acquisition software CELL is part of the system.
