Bioreactor simulation system and monitoring of rheological properties of wastewater and sludge from wastewater treatment plants
Simulation of anaerobic digestion of WWTPs on a laboratory scale with a rheometer to measure the rheological properties (viscosity, viscoelastic modulus, loss modulus, etc.) of different WWTP effluents and sludges, water and similar liquid samples at different temperatures and with different pre-treatments (e.g. hydrodynamic cavitation). The reactor system can be used to determine methane production in batch and continuous systems and to mimic the conditions of full scale anaerobic digesters at WWTPs and biogas plants. In this way, by combining pre-treatments and varying the rheological properties, methane production can be optimised according to the changed rheological properties and the input energy for the pre-treatment of the substrates, pumping and mixing.
